If you are streaming you’re supporting the streaming platform. If you buy an album or T-shirt, you are supporting the artist. Choice. I have removed all my music from Spotify and cancelled my membership and it feels really good
I feel you on this but I think that’s a lot to put on listeners. The system is broken bro. Record companies have full control over these platforms and what they say goes. Imposing a monetization threshold, classifying music like sleep & meditation as “functional music” & demonetizing it. They’re a few steps away from killing off music distribution from Distrokid & Tunecore in general. We don’t control the algorithms. On Spotify, I can’t even dislike a song. They serve up tracks, I’m working so I don’t make it to my phone in time to skip, I get the song more even though I hate it. What’s needed is some type of artist union and a class action exposing the anti trust and anti competitive tactics of UMG and Spotify.
